Excerpt
Controlled trials in lepromatous leprosy. Recruitment of patients into the two controlled trials of chemotherapy of lepromatous leprosy in Bamako and Chingleput should be completed during the next 12-18 months. Because patients are treated for tw3 years, and the lasr results from TR mice become available one year later, the results from these two trials should be available at about the time of the next quadrennial review of THELEP. At present, based on fragmentary results, there appear to be no important differences among the trial regimens. Should this be the case at the end of thc trials, the choice of an intermittent, 3-drug regimen for the field triala will have been further justified, Although it seems unlikely that THELEP will wish to test other regimens by this method, there may be a need for further studies at one of the two trial sites (see section 6.4.2 below).
