Objectives The Special Programme for Research and Training in Tropical Diseases (TDR) is an international response to major health problems of developing countries in the tropics . The Programme was planned and initiated by the World Health Organization (WHO), with the a s s i s t a n c e and co-sponsorship of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) and the World Bank ( t h e Bank). TDR operates under the guidance of and with the resources provided by its Cooperating P a r t i e s , whose r e p r e s e n t a t i v e s meet a s the J o i n t Coordinating Board (JCB) .
